A Veranda of Light: Peggy Guggenheim Café Designed by Big Names of Italian Business

Completely renovated, the Museum Café of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection reopens its doors to welcome museum visitors and offer a place to relax, worthy of a unique setting. Located on the interior of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, the Peggy Guggenheim Café is located on the veranda overlooking the internal garden, the green heart of what was Peggy Guggenheim's home for over 30 years, which she transformed into one of the most precious cultural venues dedicated to 20th-century art. The café's redesign, developed by Hangar Design Group, which oversaw its concept and construction, aimed to provide the museum with a contemporary relaxation area that would continue to speak to Peggy. The project thus emphasized the natural light that penetrates the veranda from the garden, defining a clean space with sober, soft lines.

The "Peggy" chandelier, designed specifically for this space by Hangar Design Group and manufactured by Vistosi, dominates the center of the space. Perfectly balanced around a double axis, "Peggy" is composed of a series of blown glass and metal spheres that embody a modernist idea of space, where light is the focal point of the space, interpreting the chromatic polarity of black and white with the lightness of a rational and elegant design.
